Glass Baking Dishes & Trays Kenya

(14 products)

Glass baking dishes and trays for the oven, in stock at Homelux Kenya in Nairobi with pay on delivery. Borosilicate glass dishes go from the freezer to the oven, do not stain or hold smells like plastic, and double as serving dishes, so one dish bakes the lasagna, carries it to the table and stores the leftovers in the fridge. Sizes run from a 1 litre single portion pan to 3 litre family dishes, sold singly or in sets of two and three, with and without lids. Our glass baking dish guide explains sizes and current prices.

Which glass baking dish to buy

For a family of four, a 2.2 to 3 litre rectangular dish is the everyday size: it takes a full lasagna, a roast chicken with potatoes, mandazi dough proving or a tray of brownies. A 1 to 1.5 litre dish suits one or two people, side dishes and reheating. Oval dishes are for roasting and for the table; rectangular dishes fit the oven shelf and the fridge better and cut into even portions. Dishes with glass lids store leftovers without foil and reheat in the microwave with the lid on. Sets of two or three nested sizes cost less per dish and cover most recipes.

Borosilicate glass or ordinary glass

Borosilicate glass handles sudden temperature changes, which is why it can leave the fridge and go straight into a hot oven. Ordinary soda lime glass can crack when it goes from cold to hot. Everything in this collection is borosilicate or heat resistant tempered glass rated for oven use; the product page lists the maximum temperature. Glass heats more slowly than metal and holds the heat longer, so food keeps cooking for a few minutes after it comes out, and bakes brown evenly on the bottom.

Frequently asked questions

Can glass baking dishes go in the oven? Yes. Borosilicate and tempered glass dishes are made for the oven, typically to 400 degrees. Put the dish into a preheated oven and do not place a hot dish on a wet or cold surface.

Can I use a glass dish on a gas cooker or under the grill? No. Glass bakeware is for the oven and microwave only. Direct flame or a grill element too close to the glass can crack it.

Are glass baking dishes microwave and freezer safe? Yes. Let frozen food thaw a little before it goes into a hot oven, and remove plastic lids before microwaving.

What size glass dish for lasagna? A 2.2 to 3 litre rectangular dish, roughly 30 by 20cm, for four to six people.

Do glass dishes come with lids? Some do, with glass or plastic lids for storage. Each product page says which.

How do I clean a glass baking dish? Soak in warm soapy water; baking soda lifts burnt-on food. They are dishwasher safe.

Do you deliver glass bakeware outside Nairobi? Yes, by courier to any town in Kenya, packed for glass, with payment before dispatch. Nairobi orders are pay on delivery.
