A garment steamer relaxes the fibres with steam instead of flattening them with a hot plate, so the wrinkles drop out and the garment keeps its structure.

This is the standing version, not a handheld. The large water tank sits in the base, which is the whole point: you can work through a full week of shirts, or an entire set of curtains, without stopping every few minutes to refill. The pole adjusts for anything from a shirt to a floor-length dress or drape.

What it is good for

Using it well

Steam from top to bottom in slow passes, keeping the head just off the fabric. Nairobi tap water is hard in many estates — if yours leaves white scale on the kettle, use filtered or distilled water and the steamer will last considerably longer.
