Christmas tree prices in Kenya run from under 2,000 shillings for a small bare tree at a supermarket to over 35,000 for a full pre-lit flocked tree. The difference is the height, how many branch tips the tree has, whether it is flocked with snow, and whether the lights are already fitted. This guide gives current prices for the trees in stock at Homelux Kenya in Nairobi, explains what you get at each price, and covers the questions people ask before buying: which size for which room, pre-lit or not, and how to store it for next year.
Quick answer
A good 6ft (1.8m) artificial Christmas tree with a full shape and a metal stand costs about 14,500 in Kenya in October 2026. A 7ft tree is 14,500 to 17,500 depending on the finish, an 8ft tree 17,500 to 21,000, and a 9ft tree for a double volume sitting room or a church 21,000 to 25,800. Pre-lit trees with the lights already in the branches start at 32,999. Cheaper trees exist, but below about 10,000 you are buying a thin tree with a few hundred tips that shows the pole through the branches.

What decides the price of a Christmas tree
Tip count. This matters more than height. A tree with 3000 tips at 7ft is dense enough that you cannot see the pole and the branches hold heavy ornaments. A cheap 7ft tree with 600 or 800 tips looks sparse and sags under lights. Ask for the tip count before you buy, and if the seller does not know it, that is the answer.
Height. Each foot adds roughly 2,500 to 3,500 shillings at the same quality. Measure your ceiling and leave about 30cm for the star or topper.
Flocking. Snow flocked trees cost 2,000 to 3,000 more than the same green tree. Flocking fixed to the tips in the factory does not shed; spray-on snow does.
Pre-lit. Lights fitted along the branches add 12,000 to 15,000 over the same unlit tree, but save buying 3 to 4 sets of lights and the hour of untangling every year. For an office reception or a lobby that goes up and down every season, pre-lit pays for itself in two years.
Stand and hinges. Hinged branches fold down from the pole, so the tree goes up in minutes and packs flat. Hook-in branches are cheaper and slower, and the hooks bend. A metal stand should be included; a plastic stand on a 7ft tree is a tree that falls over.
Which size Christmas tree for which room
| Room | Tree height | Floor space |
|---|---|---|
| Bedsitter or small flat | 4ft to 5ft (1.2m to 1.5m) | About 1m across |
| Family sitting room, 2.5m to 2.7m ceiling | 6ft to 7ft (1.8m to 2.1m) | 1.2m to 1.4m across |
| Large sitting room, maisonette, office reception | 8ft (2.4m) | About 1.5m across |
| Double volume lobby, church hall, hotel | 9ft (2.7m) and above | 1.6m or more across |
Green, flocked or pre-lit: which to buy
Buy green if you decorate in red and gold and want the classic look, and if the tree will be dressed by children. Buy flocked if you want the white Christmas look and will use warm white lights with gold, silver or wooden ornaments; the dark green pine flocked tree is the one that photographs best. Buy pre-lit if you want the tree ready in ten minutes every year, or if the tree is for an office, a church or a hotel where staff put it up.
When to buy
Searches for Christmas trees in Kenya start climbing in late October and peak in the first two weeks of December, and last year the trees were gone by about 10 December. Prices do not drop before Christmas; the stock runs out instead. Buy in November and keep the box.
