The picture is less one-sided than most people assume. Xiaomi is clearly cheaper at the entry level, but once you compare like for like on resolution — the 2K C300 against the 2K C220 — Eufy is actually the better value.
The real difference: where your footage lives
This is the point that should decide it for anyone buying security equipment.
Eufy stores footage locally by default — on a microSD card in the camera, or on a HomeBase hub you own. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to. There is no monthly fee, playback is instant because the file is in your house, and no company holds video of your home on a server in another country.
Xiaomi supports local microSD storage too, so you can run it without a subscription, but the Mi Home app is built around cloud storage and will nudge you toward a plan. If you buy Xiaomi, set local recording during installation.
For an indoor camera watching a living room, this may not trouble you. For a camera covering a bedroom, a shop till or a child's room, it is worth thinking about properly.
Alert quality — the thing that decides whether you keep using it
Every security camera sends alerts. The question is how many are useful. Eufy's on-device AI distinguishes humans from pets, vehicles and moving vegetation, so a tree in the wind does not wake you at 2am. Cheaper motion detection triggers on anything that moves.
This sounds like a minor specification and it is the single biggest reason people abandon a camera system. Once alerts become noise, you mute them, and a muted camera is a camera you are not watching.

Eufy is narrower and deliberately so — security cameras, video doorbells, smart locks, robot vacuums and smart scales. It goes deeper on security rather than wider across the house. If your goal is a serious security setup rather than a connected home, that focus is a strength.
Both are backed by real companies
Eufy is owned by Anker, a publicly listed consumer electronics firm. Xiaomi is the world's third-largest smartphone maker. Both will still be supporting their products in ten years, which matters more than it sounds — a grey-market security camera brand that disappears leaves you with a permanently bricked device and no firmware updates.
This is also the argument for buying from an authorised distributor rather than the cheapest importer. Warranty claims go somewhere, firmware stays supported, and the serial number is genuine.
Which should you buy?
Choose Xiaomi if you are furnishing a first smart home on a budget, you want the widest device range under one app, or you already own Xiaomi products.
Choose Eufy if you are buying security equipment specifically, you do not want footage leaving your property, you are tired of false alerts, or you want a robot vacuum that handles a large home properly.
Mixing them is fine. Plenty of Kenyan homes run Xiaomi for lighting and appliances and Eufy for cameras and locks. You manage two apps, which is a small cost for getting the best of each.
