Boxes of cling film and foil are an awkward shape and they end up wherever there is a gap — on their side behind the cereal, or flat on a shelf taking up room a plate could have used. Meanwhile the few centimetres of air under every cupboard shelf go completely unused.

This CupboardStore unit fixes to the underside of an existing shelf and turns that dead space into two open-ended compartments, each sized to take a roll or box of cling film, baking foil, baking paper or bin liners. You pull from either end. It installs with strong 3M VHB tape rather than screws, which makes it a sensible option in a rented flat where drilling the units is not on the table. Suitable for kitchen cupboards more than 26 cm wide. Joseph Joseph has discontinued the under-shelf version — the models they sell now stand on the shelf instead — so this one is a last-of-the-line item.
