Ice cream straight from the freezer is rock hard, and by the time it has softened enough to scoop it has started running down your wrist. A teaspoon bends against it, and a plain metal scoop leaves a sticky trail from the tub to the bowl and a puddle on the worktop.

The Dimple deals with both halves of that. Its zinc-alloy head is faceted with small dimples, so less metal is in contact with the ice cream and each ball releases cleanly instead of packing solid into the bowl of the scoop. The handle is weighted, which gives you the push to get through a firm tub without straining your wrist. Around the neck sits a flexible silicone collar that catches the melt before it reaches your hand, and the flat base lets it stand upright on the counter between scoops rather than lying in a pool — useful when you are serving a full table and going back for seconds.
