A box grater is the most awkward-shaped thing in the kitchen. It is mostly air, it will not stack with anything, and it takes a whole shelf of a cupboard hostage. This one folds down to 3 cm thick and slides in beside the chopping boards.

Unclip the locking catch, push the opposite corners together and it snaps up into a rigid four-sided box grater – not a compromise version, a proper one, with a blade on each face. Coarse for cheese and vegetables, fine for parmesan, nutmeg, garlic and citrus zest, ribbon for chocolate and soft cheese, and a slicer for cucumber and potatoes. When you are done it collapses flat again and the protective sheath goes on for storage, which also keeps the blades away from your fingers in the drawer.

Worth having if you cook in a small kitchen and have been putting up with a hand grater because a full box grater simply would not fit. Green colourway.
